What is a new tab bookmark manager?
It puts your saved bookmarks on the page you see every time you open a tab, instead of leaving them in a menu you rarely open. Pikamark does this in Chrome: your bookmark folders become draggable columns (a board) or a gallery of tiles, with notes, favorites and color labels beside them.
How do I set one up in Chrome?
Install Pikamark from the Chrome Web Store with the button at the end of this page and accept Chrome’s prompt to use it as your new tab. Your existing bookmarks appear at once, because there is nothing to import. Press F on any new tab to open the command palette and jump to a bookmark by name.
If you would rather keep Chrome’s own new tab, decline the prompt and open the board from the toolbar icon whenever you want it.
Does it use my real Chrome bookmarks?
Yes. Pikamark reads Chrome’s own bookmark tree rather than keeping a copy, and it changes a bookmark only when you ask it to. Edits you make in Chrome show up on the board, and edits you make on the board show up in Chrome.
How does it compare with Chrome’s built-in bookmark manager?
Pikamark does not replace the built-in manager. It is a different way to look at the same bookmarks:
| Pikamark | Chrome’s built-in manager | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you see it | On every new tab | On its own page, or in the bookmarks bar |
| Layout | Board of columns or tile gallery | A list of folders |
| Notes, favorites, color labels | Yes, beside your folders | No |
| Jump to a bookmark | Command palette (press F) | Search box inside the manager |
| Account | None | Chrome sign-in, only to sync bookmarks |
Does it work in Brave, Vivaldi and Opera?
Yes. Brave, Vivaldi and Opera install the same Chrome Web Store version. In Brave it becomes the new-tab page, as in Chrome. In Vivaldi and Opera it opens from the toolbar icon instead, so bookmark the page it opens or set it as your home page. Firefox and Edge have their own versions: see the Firefox and Edge guides.
Is it free, and does it need an account?
The core is free for good, with no account, no item caps and no ads: board and gallery, notes, search, favorites, color labels, and light and dark themes with five accents. Pro is optional and adds tags, comments and reminders, workspaces, pinned links, backgrounds and automatic backups: $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $49.99 once, with a 14-day trial and no card. The full comparison is on the Pricing page.
Does it send my bookmarks anywhere?
No. Your bookmarks, notes and tags never leave your device, and the extension has no analytics or tracking. The only network call is the Pro license check, made if you activate a license. The Privacy policy explains each permission.
