What is a new tab bookmark manager?
It puts your saved bookmarks on the page you see every time you open a tab, instead of leaving them in the Library window or the sidebar. Pikamark does this in Firefox: your bookmark folders become draggable columns (a board) or a gallery of tiles, with notes, favorites and color labels beside them.
How do I set one up in Firefox?
Install Pikamark from Firefox Add-ons with the button at the end of this page and accept Firefox’s prompt to use it as your new tab. Your existing bookmarks appear at once, because there is nothing to import. Press F on any new tab to open the command palette and jump to a bookmark by name.
If you would rather keep Firefox’s own new tab, decline the prompt and open the board from the toolbar icon whenever you want it.
Does it use my real Firefox bookmarks?
Yes. Pikamark reads Firefox’s own bookmark tree rather than keeping a copy, and it changes a bookmark only when you ask it to. Edits you make in Firefox show up on the board, and edits you make on the board show up in Firefox.
How does it compare with Firefox’s built-in bookmark tools?
Pikamark does not replace the Library or the bookmarks sidebar. It is a different way to look at the same bookmarks:
| Pikamark | Firefox’s built-in tools | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you see it | On every new tab | In the Library window, the sidebar or the toolbar |
| Layout | Board of columns or tile gallery | A tree or list of folders |
| Notes, favorites, color labels | Yes, beside your folders | No |
| Jump to a bookmark | Command palette (press F) | Search box inside the Library or sidebar |
| Account | None | Firefox account, only to sync bookmarks |
Is it free, and does it need an account?
The core is free for good, with no account, no item caps and no ads: board and gallery, notes, search, favorites, color labels, and light and dark themes with five accents. Pro is optional and adds tags, comments and reminders, workspaces, pinned links, backgrounds and automatic backups: $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $49.99 once, with a 14-day trial and no card. The full comparison is on the Pricing page.
Does it send my bookmarks anywhere?
No. Your bookmarks, notes and tags never leave your device, and the extension has no analytics or tracking. Pikamark contacts a server only for the Pro license check, made if you activate a license. Firefox also loads each bookmark’s site icon straight from its site; you can turn that off in Settings. The Privacy policy explains each permission.
